Literary and Talent Agent

United Talent Agency

For an agent, clout is your clients and Larry Salz has clout. He currently represents writers on “Spin City,” “The Drew Carey Show,” “Dharma & Greg,” “Mad About You” and “Party of Five.”

“A-list clients help bring you other writers,” Salz said. “It gives you more access. But I have writers who are not on the premier shows who have the spark. They are just waiting to get the shot.”

Kate Juergens, senior vice president for development at The WB, said these clients will indeed be getting their shot with 26-year-old Salz representing them. “He has a big-picture take on their careers, as opposed to someone just submitting people randomly,” she said. “He approaches us with projects, suggests writers and is very proactive.”

Salz represents writers and their scripts to TV producers and network executives who are looking for material for new or existing productions.

The New York-born Salz says he knew what he wanted to do from an early age, and while at boarding school, he worked summer internships at Paramount Pictures and Orion.

“I lived in front of the television as a kid, and I grew up sitting on the couch watching ‘The Brady Bunch’ and the Muppets,” he said.

After graduation from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., Salz began working in the mailroom at United Talent Agency. In 1996, he was promoted to agent in the firm’s literary department, working principally with TV writers.

“I love reading scripts,” he said. “I have tons on my couch.”

Juergens is impressed with his enthusiasm and says that his youth is not a distraction to older producers and executives. “He’s like an old soul,” Juergens said. “I don’t think of him as being someone in his 20s or as immature. He’s very sensitive and has a great sense of the business.”
