Paul M. Keglevic

Pacific region managing partner

Arthur Andersen LLP

Specialty: Pacific Rim and electric/utility industries

Paul Keglevic’s client list pretty much covers all the major utilities in the West.

Edison International, PG & E;, Sempra Energy, Arizona Public Service Co., Central Illinois Public Service Co., Contel-Western Region, GTE California Inc., Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc., Public Service Co. of New Mexico, San Diego Gas Corp. and Tucson Electric Co. these are among the companies that turn to Keglevic for such services as consulting, accounting and auditing. Considering that deregulation started in the West and is spreading fast across the country, Keglevic’s expertise is a rare and highly demanded commodity.

“We have a ground-level view, and this will give us a competitive advantage as deregulation moves throughout the rest of the country,” Keglevic said.

For more than two decades, Keglevic, who holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Northern Illinois University, has been providing a variety of services to Andersen’s utilities and telecommunications clients. He also handles accounting and audit services. He’s served as an expert witness in utility regulatory proceedings in California, New Mexico and Hawaii.

“He is the antithesis of what people would call a green-eyeshade accountant,” said Mike Maffie, president and chief executive of Las Vegas-based South West Gas Corp. “I can’t think of anybody in this field who is more knowledgeable or more solid. He is at the top of his game, and I am not talking about golf.”

In addition to his expertise on the electric/utility industry, Keglevic heads Andersen’s Pacific Rim operations. “Like most chaos, there is room for opportunity,” he said. “What we are having in the Asia/Pacific area is a sorting-out process.”

Keglevic also is the co-author of two books, “Electric Power Trends 1993″ and Activity-Based Costing for Electric Utilities.”
