Heather Robinson-Greene

Vice President

Union Bank of California

Age: 31

Heather Anderson-Greene isn’t your typical Web-head.

In fact, it wasn’t until she was getting her MBA in marketing at UCLA’s Anderson School where everything from taking tests to conducting research is done on laptops that she realized how computers can make some tasks a lot easier.

Three years later, she is a vice president of Union Bank of California and responsible for online financial services.

The Web site’s main function is to allow customers to check their balances, transfer funds, and even pay bills. But it also includes services for small businesses, commercial customers and investors. Robinson-Greene has also started using the site as a marketing tool for retail services, including auto loans and the new Roth IRAs.

Robinson-Greene’s job is not only to make sure that things work correctly, but to make the 1,000-plus-page site user friendly. In less than a year at Union Bank which recruited her from Sanwa Bank California after she spent two years there working on its Web site Anderson-Greene is getting results.

“(She) has already brought to (the site) coherence, and Union Bank’s online market share is growing at a good clip,” according to Nik Banerjee, senior vice president and director of marketing for Union Bank.

Only about 30,000 customers use the bank’s online services today, but Union Bank expects to add a minimum of 6,000 new online users a year. “It’s definitely a very important means for the bank to bring in new customers and retain existing customers,” Robinson-Greene said.

One of the youngest vice presidents at Union Bank, Robinson-Greene attributes her success to her ability to make sense out of a lot of information.

Banerjee agrees. But he says it’s her marketing savvy that makes her especially valuable. “She is a quintessential out-of-the-box thinker who thinks like a business person, not a banker,” Banerjee said.
