Make A Difference, L.A.!
Angelenos Unite! Make A Difference Day will be here soon! This event is
the largest national day of helping others and has become a celebration
of neighbors helping neighbors. And your City invites you to participate
in Make A Difference, L.A.!
An effort of this magnitude could not be confined to a single day. Make
A Difference, L.A. begins September 10th and concludes October 18th. By
calling 888-CARE-4-LA or checking this Web Page, you can discover which
organizations can use your help when you are available.
How To Make A Difference
It’s simple. Volunteer! There are many community organizations located
within the Los Angeles area that are making a difference and would be
thrilled to have you join them.
The City of Los Angeles, the coordinator of Make a Difference, L.A., can
refer you to many community groups dedicated to a better, cleaner, more
livable Los Angeles. Just call 888-CARE-4-LA to volunteer. In addition,
the City is focusing on projects with an environmental theme and youth
participation. So if you want to organize your own community project and
are willing to take the Make A Difference pledge, call 888-CARE-4-LA so
we can refer interested volunteers to you.
The Pledge
What is the Make A Difference pledge? It is a commitment to either
sponsor an event in your neighborhood or volunteering to support other
events that occur between September 10th and October 18th. The events
you commit to should leave a lasting improvement for the neighborhood
and can include community clean-ups, tree plantings, community gardens,
park restorations, environmental workshops, or other activities whose
goal is to make your neighborhood more livable.
The Kick-Off Event
Make A Difference, L.A. begins on September 10th at 11:00 a.m. in
downtown Los Angeles’ Pershing Square. And you are invited to attend!
Community organizations throughout Los Angeles will be there to partner
with the City and to take the Make A Difference pledge. These groups
will also be explaining their projects and hoping you will be able to
join them in creating a better L.A.
Recognition
Community organizations that fulfill their Make A Difference pledge will
have their accomplishments recognized on the morning of October 24th at
the Los Angeles Zoo. At that time, you will learn how many hours of
community labor were donated, the number of trees planted, the square
feet of walls painted, the length and width of fields mowed, weeded and
planted as well as what other projects have been accomplished.
