Name: Michael Forman

Chairman: Decurion Corp.

Net worth: $300 million

Source of wealth: Movie theater chains

Residence: Bel Air

As a youth, Seattle-born Michael Forman paid his way through college by working nights at a drive-in theater. He is now president of Decurion Corp., which owns and operates the Pacific and Cinerama theater chains. Between them, the chains have more than 300 screens in California and Hawaii. Forman’s son Christopher is CEO of Pacific Theatres. Pacific, in turn, operates Consolidated Amusement Co. of Hawaii, a smaller movie chain.

Decurion began in 1946 as Pacific Theatres, when Forman’s father, William Forman, founded it as a string of drive-ins. The last of the company’s outdoor screens in Los Angeles closed last year. “It’s the end of an era,” Forman, 62, said at the time.

Forman has served as a member of the board of trustees of the American Film Institute, and often travels to Hawaii, the only other state besides California where Pacific Theatres operates. He is an avid golfer, enjoys hunting birds and travelling.
